8 Fun Things This August

A few of my favorite things this month

Is this the time that they call the “dog days of summer”? It’s the time where everyone is feeling hot and lazy, but still trying to enjoy the season before school starts up again. I’m looking forward to routine, but also trying to enjoy every moment before my daughter heads off to kindergarten. The things below are currently on repeat at my house, because once I find something and love it, I don’t want to let go!

My August Favorites

1. A Nostalgic Playlist

My daughter turns 5 in the fall, and she’s going off to school… Sniff… So this a nostalgic, mother to daughter playlist. Listen on Apple Music or Spotify.

2. Our Fave 5 Minute Dinner

You can find this cauliflower fried rice with spices & vegetables at Whole Foods. It’s become a staple in our house when we need to eat now. Saute it up, toss in any extra veggies or protein, and done! The pulled pork from Costco with sriracha mayo on top is delicious.

3. Strawberry Moscow Mules

Yes, Moscow Mules have been my go-to drink for this entire summer, and this variation is delish. You can use any plain or berry flavored vodka, but I prefer Absolut Strawberry because it’s not too sweet.

How To: Muddle some strawberries and basil in the bottom of a copper mug, top with crushed ice, one oz. of strawberry vodka, then finish with ginger beer and juice from half a lemon. Enjoy!

4. Yeti Water Bottles

These Yeti water bottles were just over $20 each, which made my wallet hurt a bit. But since we got them, the kids love them, take them everywhere, drink more water, and I don’t need to worry about spills. And since the bottles are super-sturdy, they’ll last a long time.

5. The BEST Planner

I like to start fall with a new planner, maybe because of the back-to-school vibes. I’ve had the Day Designer Planner for three years in a row, and it keeps my days and to-do lists organized with an entire page dedicated to each day.

6. No Social Media

On a whim, I took social media off my phone, and it’s been great. Whether you feel you’re too addicted to the scroll, to posting everything, or just want to take a break, I highly recommend a social media cleanse once in a while.

7. Grilled Caesar Salad

Here is another fast summer meal that takes almost zero prep. Cut a head of romaine in half, and grill it for about 2 minutes on each side until it’s just charred. Then cut off the stumpy end, mix with store bought caesar and some croutons. Restaurant-quality in no time. This makes a great side, but also a full meal if you add chicken or seafood to it.

8. Bevvy Drink Mix

This drink mix from Beach Body has fiber to fill you up with a little pop of energy. I have one mid-morning and it keeps me full well past lunch, plus stops me from reaching for snacks. They come in a lemonade or pomegranate-berry flavor, which I’m a big fan of.

There you have it! Now tell me, what are YOU loving as summer winds down?
